Presentation title: Limosilactobacillus reuteri as an oral probiotic – translational journey from clinical questions to preclinical development and clinical applications
Dr. Jakob Axelsson is a research manager at BioGaia AB, focusing on science of probiotics in the areas of oral health and bone biology. He is a biochemist and has a background in basic science and holds a PhD from Lund University in the area of immunology and inflammatory response. His main research interest at BioGaia AB is the capabilities of probiotics to affect oral and gut microbiome and direct host interactions.
Limosilactobacillus reuteri strains have a solid history of use in the oral cavity but what did spark the interest in this particular species? What is known about its molecular mechanisms of action besides its therapeutic properties? What are the ecological and functional impacts of L. reuteri strains in the oral microbiome? What do we foresee for the future? All these transversal dimensions will be addressed during the presentation.
