Copenhagen Bio Science Park (COBIS)
COBIS is a hub for life science and biotech startups to grow and develop. With approx. 15,000 square meters they offer offices, lab facilities, shared co-working areas and professional conference and meeting spaces. Together with their owners, Symbion Science Park, they are home to almost 600 start-ups, mid-size organisations and technology professionals.
COBIS also hosts the prestigious BioInnovation Institute, which offers entrepreneurially-minded researchers or anyone with a research-based idea help to bring interdisciplinary ideas to life and research to market.
DTU Science Park
DTU Science and Technology Park hosts its high tech facilities in Lyngby and Hørsholm, Greater Copenhagen. It is located next to the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the 19 research-intensive institutes within it. It is home to approx. 300 companies and 3400 employees.
Ideon Science Park
Ideon Science Park is the world’s first UN certified science park, leading the way in world changing innovation for a sustainable future. Based next to Lund University, it has over 35 years of experience in connecting scientists and researchers with innovators and entrepreneurs to create world-changing innovations.
Around 10,000 people and over 400 companies call Ideon Science Park their home. They focus on four areas of Future of Transportation, Smart Cities, Smart Materials and Health Tech.
Krinova Science Park
Krinova Science Park is located adjacent to the Kristianstad University. It features well-equipped facilities and a number of outreach activities in order to encourage creativity in large and small companies alike. Krinova is uniquely placed to assist companies in developing their business models in environmental sciences, food sciences and human resources. The science park hosts 118 companies and 300 employees.
Medeon Science Park
Medeon Science Park, centrally located in Malmö, focuses entirely on life sciences. It is an innovative and inspiring environment with strong network functions, international interactions and incubator, offering customised business development. Home to 60 companies and 450 employees, Medicon Valley works in close cooperation with health care and universities in Lund and Malmö.
Medicon Village Science Park
Medicon Village Science Park is a progressive science park for cutting-edge research and innovation in areas like cancer, probiotic, chronic inflammation, cell and gene therapy and digitalisation. Medicon Village houses more than 150 organisations with 2200 employees working in pharma, medtech, biotech and healthtech and offers a unique environment for the growth of development intensive companies.
Based in Copenhagen, Symbion promotes an entrepreneurial environment. The Symbion network currently consists of 550 companies with approximately 2000 employees working within areas such as IT, life sciences and cleantech. Symbion works in partnership with Scion DTU and COBIS to create the best environment possible for science focused organisations.
Biofilms Research Centre for Biointerfaces
Biofilms Research Centre for Biointerfaces is a translational research programme covering five research groups at Malmö University. They have a broad expertise, spanning from theoretical modelling to clinical sciences, and a long experience of working with industry.
Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC)
Disease-oriented basic research is the main focus at BRIC. Their overall aim is to contribute to a basic understanding of how and why disease occurs, to discover new disease-related genes, and to identify new diagnostic markers, which are essential to provide more efficient treatment.
Centre for Healthy Aging
The Center for Healthy Aging is a research center located at the University of Copenhagen that studies how more people can have a healthy life and healthy aging. The approach to research is interdisciplinary and the center studies aging and aging processes from cell to society.
Centre for Nanomedicine and Theranostics
The DTU Center for Nanomedicine and Theranostics develops advanced biomaterial technology and new medical inventions for diagnosing and treating severe diseases. The strong multidisciplinarity of the center allows for research in new biomedical technologies and evaluation of new treatment concepts in vitro and in vivo.
Centre for Translational Genomics
The Center for Translational Genomics offers expertise and service in genomic technologies to promote translational research projects or projects aiming at clinical implementation of new diagnostic assays in healthcare.
Clinical Research Centre (CRC)
The Clinical Research Centre in Malmö is a modern clinical research centre. Together with the Wallenberg Laboratory, CRC provides a foundation for medical research in Malmö. Students, scientists and health care personnel work closely together under one roof.
CREATE Health and MAD for Cancer
CREATE Health, the Strategic Centre for Translational Cancer research, and the MAD for Cancer Program is unique in its concept. It brings together several different facets of cancer biology from four university faculties into one multifocal approach focusing on personalised medicine for cancer.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) at the Technical University of Denmark aims at developing new knowledge and technologies to help facilitate the transformation from the existing oil-based chemical industry to a more sustainable bio-based society in which chemicals are produced biologically.
DTU Nanotech is a department at DTU, dedicated to conduct research, education and innovation within micro- and nanotechnology at the highest international level. They have four main research areas, one of which being Biomedical and Life science.
European Spallation Source ERIC and Max IV
The European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) is a partnership of 15 European nations committed to the goal of collectively building and operating the world’s leading facility for research using neutrons. The facility is currently under construction in Lund, Sweden. However, when the ESS User Program begins in 2023, an estimated two to three thousand visiting scientists will come to ESS annually to perform experiments. Most users will be based at European universities and institutes, and others within industry.
The synchrotrone facility MAX IV Laboratory was inaugurated in June 2016. It is home to state-of-the-art x-ray equipment available to scientists from academia and industry in the whole world. The two facilities can together bring the materials science research on electrolysers to the next level by making the invisible visible.
The x-rays are used to understand, explain and improve the world around us. They will enable the study of materials that we use today, and improve them beyond the performance that we know. The ESS will be of great importance in pre-clinical research within life science. Within the life science industry, neutrons and the neutron scattering techniques and methods are becoming a tool of choice in the understanding of drug delivery mechanisms and the early drug delivery and characterisation.
LU Bioimaging Centre
Lund University Bioimaging Centre is an infrastructure within the Medical Faculty housing advanced imaging equipment for use by researchers, PhD students and industry. We have both preclinical and clinical equipment available for various studies and experiments. It ranges from electron microscopes to our latest addition the National 7T MRI.
LU Innovation is the hub for innovation and commercialisation at the Tech Transfer Office at Lund University. They help the university's researchers and students to convert ideas and research findings into new methods, services and products that can bring benefit and growth to society.
Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC)
Lund University Diabetes Centre is a consortium of research groups at Lund University dedicated to unravelling the pathogenesis and treatment of diabetes mellitus. The research group is active in several different areas of diabetes research. Their aim is to identify the genetic factors responsible for development of diabetes, how they interact with the environment and how to integrate this knowledge with identifying the pathophysiology in pancreatic islet cells and insulin target tissue.
The Lundbeck foundation has invested heavily in establishing many research centres at the University of Copenhagen. These cover a broad range of scientific areas, pertaining to different diseases. These research groups are; Asthma in Childhood, Biomembranes in Nanomedicine, Neuropsychiatric diseases, The Lundbeck Foundation Centre for Neurovascular Signaling, Brain Barrier research.
Lund Stem Cell Center
Lund Stem Cell Centre (SCC) at Lund University is a world-leading center for stem cell research with the mission of transferring basic science findings to the clinic in order to make a fundamental difference to improve human health. Established in 2008, the center now consists of 35 research groups, all performing fundamental, multidisciplinary research, mostly within the fields of neurology and hematology.
Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centres
DanStem, following investments from NovoNordisk and DCSR, is a research group focused on insulin producing beta cells and cancer research. DanStem is located at the University of Copenhagen.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Basic Metabolic Research brings scientific discoveries from the laboratory to society in an effort to tackle some of today’s biggest challenges – diabetes and obesity. The close interdisciplinary collaboration between more than 100 skilled scientists enables more effective discovery strategies to prevent, control and ultimately cure metabolic diseases.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Protein Research was established in 2007 at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The centre comprises a wide range of expertise and skills within its research programmes, spanning disease systems biology, proteomics, high-throughput protein production and characterisation, chemical biology, disease biology, and protein therapeutics.
The centre for Translational Neuroscience focuses on the development of new approaches for treating neurological diseases, primarily using cell and gene therapy. The focus is on using these technologies to mobilise endogenous stem and progenitor cells of the adult brain and spinal cord, as a means of structural repair.
